EVENT MANAGEMENT CAREERS

An event manager’s role is near impossible to define as these multiskilled professional problem solvers can be called upon to organise every small detail of every type of event. Event management can mean organising event branding, writing event briefs, fulfilling production and technical responsibilities, celebrity and artist management, liaising with the media, organising sponsorship, public relations, marketing and promotions, wedding planning, running award ceremonies, or managing sporting, tourism, or corporate events.

Events usually begin with conceptualising an occasion with the client’s objectives in mind, before beginning to plan and coordinate with a range of different agencies that have a stake in the event. Once these initial decisions have been made, an event manager may be required to organise permits from regulatory authorities, visualise stage design, arrange for performers and media promoters, prepare run sheets, and finally, oversee the smooth operation of the event from start to finish.

The best event managers succeed through strong communication, creative vision, good organisation, and attention to detail. Thinking big comes with the territory, along with the ability to visualise concepts, motivate people, and being able to collaborate effectively with all kinds of personalities.

Career paths in event management include:

• Event co-ordinator or planner

• Sports event manager

• Wedding planner

• Fashion event planner

• Corporate event manager

• Tourism event co-ordinator

Students with a Student Visa will need to complete the program in minimum duration, study at least one subject on-campus each semester and must not undertake more than 33% of the program online.
