Course highlights

The Master of Philosophy allows you to develop and enhance your analytical and research skills through independent investigation in a specific field and present your findings in a thesis. You'll develop a thorough understanding of scholarly debate and the capacity to critically analyze and constructively contribute to that debate to shape your research, resulting in a distinct contribution to knowledge of the subject. The Master of Philosophy may also be a pathway to a Doctor of Philosophy.

Applicants must have completed Australian bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline from a university or other tertiary education provider. Academic IELTS with a minimum overall score of 6.5 and with no score below 6.0 in each of the individual skill areas, TOEFL test result with a minimum overall score of 577 (Computerised 233) with a score of at least 5.0 in the Test for Written English, Internet based TOEFL score of 90 with a writing score of 24.

The entry qualifications required for admission to a Master of Philosophy program are:

  • an appropriate Bachelor degree from an Australian university or an equivalent overseas tertiary institution, taken over a minimum of three years (full-time equivalent) and with a minimum grade point average of 5.0; or
  • an appropriate Bachelor degree with honours from an Australian university or an equivalent overseas tertiary institution, taken over a minimum of four years (full-time equivalent); or
  • some other appropriate combination of undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications (such as relevant graduate diplomas) and research experience that demonstrate capacity to undertake research at a Masters level.

A minimum overall Academic IELTS score IELTS of 6.5 with no score below a 6.5 in each of the individual skill areas or a qualification deemed equivalent.

TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) internet based score of 79;

Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic score of 58;

TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) Paper based test score of 557.

International Second Language Proficiency Rating (ISLPR): Level 3+;

Cambridge English Scale: CAE and CPE - 176.
