The Computer Systems Technologist explores how to design, install, troubleshoot and maintain enterprise-level information systems (IS) and this IT program will develop your skills to manage and provide high-level support to various organizations.

In addition to your academic technical skill set, Computer Systems Technology students experience learning through co-ops which support progressive learning and is offered early in your studies. This allows you to take what you've learned from all of your IT courses and apply it directly in the field to further strengthen your technical, communication and interpersonal skills.

Graduates

Successful completion of this IT program will enable you to explore several industry certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), Microsoft Certified System Engineer (MCSE) and Red Hat Certified System Administrator. As a Computer Systems Technology graduate, your unique academic experience from both in-class IT courses and co-op field experience will prepare you to explore challenging and rewarding career opportunities in network and systems administration, support, design and implementation.

Program Description

The Computer Systems Technology program is an accredited, three-year co-operative education, Ontario College Advanced Diploma program which provides comprehensive training for students wishing to work in the high demand areas of network, security, virtualization, data storage and management and systems operation and management. This program provides the students the ability to be effective team leaders, think critically, solve problems and acquire new skills quickly.

Under the guidance of expert faculty, combined with the use of leading edge labs, the program emphasizes the design, implementation, configuration, monitoring, troubleshooting, management, as well as the hands-on installation of networking, security, VoIP, mobile devices, virtualization, data storage and management, server, workstation and operating systems technologies.

Co-operative Education

This three-year program has three co-op work terms. Students who fulfill both the academic and co-op requirements of the program will be eligible to graduate with a Co-op Endorsed Diploma.

Learning Outcomes

The graduate has reliably demonstrated the ability to

1. analyze and resolve information technology problems through the application of systematic approaches and diagnostic tools.

2. analyze, plan, design, and implement computer systems.

3. analyze, plan, design, and implement networking solutions.

4. install, configure, troubleshoot, monitor, maintain, upgrade, and optimize computer systems.

5. install, configure, troubleshoot, monitor, maintain, upgrade, and optimize networks.

6. use a variety of scripting tools and languages to automate routine tasks.

7. participate in the deployment and administration of databases within a networked environment.

8. plan, develop, and be responsible for data storage to ensure the integrity of information.

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) test with a minimum score of 550 for the paper-based test (PBT), or 79 for the Internet-based test (iBT), with test results within the last two years

International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test with an overall score of 6.0 with no score less than 5.5 in any of the four bands, with test results within the last two years

Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) test with an overall score of 60 with no score less than 50 in any of the four bands, with test results within the last two years

An English Language Evaluation (ELE) at Fanshawe College with a minimum score of 70% in all sections of the test, with test results within the last two years

Fanshawe College ESL4/GAP5 students: Minimum grade of 80% in ESL4/GAP5 Level 8, 75% in ESL4/GAP5 Level 9, or 70% in ESL4/GAP5 Level 10
