Historians unearth and analyze the past in order to understand how societies change and how political and social institutions develop. For you, the study of history provides an opportunity to delve into the past - recent and distant - and to develop reading, writing and analytical skills that will serve you well in your chosen careers in the “information age”.

Resources available to students include the Brandon University Archives with its broad collection of materials relating to both the history of Brandon University and the social history of southwestern Manitoba.

Summer employment opportunities in the Brandon University Archives are periodically available to senior history students.

Entry requirements may vary from country to country. Students require having at least one Grade 12 English credit equivalent to Canadian high school.

English Proficiency Requirements:

  • CAEL (Canadian Academic English Language Assessment) - score of 60
  • CanTEST: Achieve a minimum score of 4.5 in Reading, 4.5 in Listening, 4.0 in Speaking, and 4.0 on Writing on the Canadian Test for English for Scholars and Trainees
  • EAP: Successful completion of Tier 4 for undergraduate students
  • IELTS (International English Language Testing System (Academic)): 6.5 overall
  • MELAB (Michigan English Language Assessment Battery): Achieve score of 80
  • TOEFL: 550 (paper-based test) with a minimum score of 50 in each testing section. 80 (Internet-based test) with a minimum score of 20 in each testing section.
  • PTEA (Pearson Test of English Academic): 58
