The program combines academic and professional theory with nursing practice to prepare nurses to think critically and creatively by providing a sound education in nursing science, related sciences, and the humanities. Graduates practice nursing across the health illness continuum, the life course, and health care settings.

ABOUT NURSING

StFX offers diverse clinical experiences in community health, mental health, acute care, maternal and child care, pediatrics, and international service learning opportunities. This diversity creates a dynamic learning environment that produces graduates who understand the complexity of nursing practice and the multi-level interventions required to address the needs of patients, families, communities, and populations.

FIRST YEAR NURSING:

During your first year, you will complete a required 30 Arts and Science course credits. In your second year and onwards, you will be immersed in concentrated nursing courses and clinical practice experiences.

Nurses have always been in high demand. You’ll have career options including work in hospitals, homecare, community, public health, research and policy, government, education or other exciting areas.

FLEXIBLE DEGREE CHOICES:

StFX Nursing offers a Traditional 4-Year program over four calendar years (no intersessions) that includes eight semesters of study and an April graduation. This option primarily targets students entering from high school.

StFX also offers an Accelerated 2-year option. This option primarily targets students with prior post-secondary credits. It starts each January with nursing courses and clinical experiences required throughout winter, spring/summer and fall terms and a December graduation.

Applicant must have English, academic math, chemistry, biology, and one other university preparatory course in grade 12. A minimum average of 70 in the five preparatory courses is required for admission. Admission is competitive. Limited enrolment Successful completion of CASPER prior to March 1.

Students with an IELTS score of 6.5 and no band below 6.0 will be deemed to have satisfied the English language requirements for admissions to undergraduate programs. Other acceptable tests include: MELAB (minimum score required is 90), TOEFL iBT (minimum score required is 90 and no lower than 20 in each band), CAEL (minimum score required is 71), CAE (minimum score required is 180 overall and no lower than 170 in each band.

Please note the deadline to apply to the 4-year BScN program is February 28, 2021, you may write CASPer on or up to that date and submit transcripts by March 1, 2021 for admission consideration.
