You have practical work experience in the social services sector and you’re looking for additional training and practice in your chosen field. As a student in our program, you’ll acquire the knowledge and skills that help bring about effective change in special needs groups, organizations and communities. This certificate can be completed with an emphasis in Community Intervention, Health Promotion or Organizational Leadership. The program is designed for those, although qualified in their own profession, who wish to obtain additional training and practice in their chosen field. The educational approach of the Certificate is experience-based learning, or learning-by-doing. Experiences in groups, both inside the class and outside, are integrated into the program. The Certificate can be completed with an emphasis in one of the following: community intervention, health promotion, and organizational development. Credits earned in the certificate program may be applied towards the requirements for a Bachelor of Arts degree. Graduates of the Certificate program in Community Service are encouraged to apply to the following types of employers: social service agencies; hospitals; geriatric centres and residences; drug and alcohol treatment centres; schools; mental health institutions; women's centres; community recreation centres; religious organizations. Self-employment as a community service worker is also a career option.

Cegep Students: No specific courses are required beyond a DEC. Minimum Cut-off Averages;: Minimum cut-off averages should be used as indicators. The cut-off data may change depending on the applicant pool. Applicants who meet the stated minimum requirements are not guaranteed admission to these programs. Quebec Cegep (CRC): DEC; Canadian High Schools: 70 per cent; U.S. High Schools: 2.5; University Transfers: C; International Bacc. (IB): 27; Bacc. Français: 11/20. Make sure you also meet Concordia’s minimum admission requirements. Quebec: You must complete a two-year, pre-university program or a three-year professional DEC (Diplome detudes collégiales). CRC minimum requirements for admission vary between 19.000 and 30.000; however, based on space availability, students below this average may be considered. Other parts of Canada: You must be a high school graduate, depending on which province you are from. Applicant from other countries must have the requirements equivalent to Canada. All applicants to the Certificate in Community Service program are required to submit a Letter of Intent with their Concordia University admission application. English language requirements: Direct Admission: TOEFL (paper-based) score between 540 and 576. Conditional Admission: TOEFL (paper-based) score between 505 and 539; MELAB minimum score of 74, 2 on speaking tests; CAEL minimum score of 50; CAE minimum score of C; CPE (advanced qualification for proficient users only) minimum score of C.
