The DLTC offers a particularly friendly and stimulating environment for students who wish to do a master's or a doctorate in the vast field of French-language literatures, literary theories or literary translation. The DLTC also offers an MA with an option in Literary Writing (“Creative Writing” and “Literary Translation”) and an MA with an option in Women and Gender Studies.

Master of Arts (MA) French Language and Literature (with thesis) (45 credits)

The master's with thesis includes two semesters of seminars, at the end of which the students submit a thesis project in the field of their choice, then devote their second year of the program to writing the thesis.

The first two sessions of the master's program are devoted to schooling, for full-time students; they must then follow 6 seminars of 3 credits (including FREN 697 ) and prepare their thesis subject ( FREN 696 : 6 credits). Students enrolled half-time must register for a minimum of two seminars per session.

The student can present a thesis in literary criticism or a thesis in literary writing.

Master of Arts (MA) French Language and Literature (with thesis): Studies on Women and Gender (45 credits)

The Graduate Option in Gender and Women's Studies is a multidisciplinary program offered to students who at the same time fulfill all the requirements of the Master's program with thesis of the Department of French-language Literatures. , translation and creation. In addition to the two compulsory courses taken at the Department, students must take a 3-credit course reserved for students in this option. Among the electives, students must take two courses of 3 credits each that have been approved by the option and that focus on issues related to gender and feminist research and methodologies. Their thesis must be on a subject explicitly linked to gender or to women's studies.

The master's without thesis comprises three semesters of seminars after which the students prepare three research papers (30 pages each) under the supervision of three professors. Among the opportunities available to graduates are teaching (at the college level) as well as various professions related to literature and written communication (particularly in the publishing world).

The first three sessions of the program are devoted to schooling, for full-time students; they must follow 8 seminars of three credits, i.e. 4 per session. The FREN 697 and FREN 600 courses are compulsory. Students enrolled half-time must register for a minimum of two seminars per session.

Conditions of admission

Propaedeutic

Students holding a BA who have a partial background in literature may be admitted to Foundation Studies, and who are then required to enroll full-time in a program of 8 undergraduate courses, established at the time of their enrolment.

To be admitted directly to MA I, the candidate must hold a BA with specialization in French, Quebec or Francophone literature, or in translation (" Honors "), or a BA with double specialization (" Joint Honors ") or the equivalent. The candidate must also present a very good academic record, i.e. an average of at least 75%; the BA does not automatically entitle you to admission.

English Language Scores:

TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language): minimum acceptable scores are: The CBT is no longer being offered. CBT results will no longer be accepted as ETS no longer reports these results. N.B. an institutional version of the TOEFL is not acceptable. IBT (Internet-Based Test): 86 overall, no less than 20 in each of the four component scores.

IELTS (International English Language Testing System): a band score of 6.5 or greater (Academic module).

Deadlines: For fall: February 1 and for Winter: July 15.
