The instructors are leading scholars in their fields who are internationally renowned and who have managed to secure a great deal of external funding from national and international research funding institutions and from the industry.

Profile of the Master's Programme

The interdisciplinary master's programme Techno mathematics is an advanced scientifically oriented degree programme in mathematics with integrated elements from engineering and computer science. You will have the highest possible level of freedom in organizing your studies. As in the M.Sc. programmes Mathematics and Mathematical Economics, the advanced modules represent the core of this degree programme in mathematics. These are traditional lectures in mathematics accompanied by tutorials in which you will address two research areas in mathematics in greater detail.

In the engineering and computer science portions of the programme (each representing around 20% of the assessment components), you will be able to select courses from all the engineering and computer science degree programmes in Bayreuth. You will be able to gain practical experience and establish contacts in the industry by completing an internship that is at least six weeks in duration. Specialization modules in mathematics, computer science, and engineering will introduce you to current research. In seminars and during the ten-month period for writing your master's thesis, you will develop your ability to carry out independent scientific research.

Career Prospects

Each of our degree programmes in mathematics teaches many other skills aside from knowledge and proficiency in your subject area including abstract thinking, problem-solving skills, perseverance, and presenting complex topics in seminar or colloquium talks. For this reason, The University of Bayreuth's techno mathematics graduates work in many different fields: in banks and insurance agencies, in the software and high-tech industry, and in the field of consulting. They are able to find work locally, around the country, and worldwide. Graduates of degree programmes in mathematics have excellent, wide-ranging career prospects that are largely independent of fluctuations in the economy.
