Programme Aims & Learning Outcomes

This programme prepares students for careers in property management in Hong Kong and the region. It is a professional education programme with a global and practical perspective. Drawing on the wide range of building and real estate subjects on offer, the programme provides broad based and interdisciplinary education in the context of property and housing management, and facilities and real estate asset management. Graduates are all-rounders who can understand and work with the interplay between social, economic, political, legal, technological and commercial issues and problems.

Programme Characteristics

Students have close contact with the industry through guest lectures, professional studies and property management workshops.

A Study Exchange Programme with overseas universities such as Loughborough University (UK), the Queensland University of Technology (Australia) and University of Florida (USA) provides students with opportunities to study abroad.

Curriculum

  • The curriculum covers the disciplines of economics and finance, law, technology, real estate, property management, housing and facilities management.
  • Year One is a common first year with other surveying and building engineering and management students.
  • More advanced subjects in property management, housing and facilities management, and real estate follow in Years Two, Three and Four.
  • Problem identification, problem solving and decision making form the focus of the programme. In addition to the Core Subjects, students are required to study other subjects including Property Management Practice, Dissertation, Language and Elective Subjects.

Professional Recognition

This programme is accredited by the following professional institutions:

  • The Hong Kong Institution of Housing (HKIH);
  • The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) in the UK; and
  • The Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors (HKIS) - GP and PFM Divisions.

Career Prospects

Government surveys have repeatedly shown that there will be a sustainable growth of demand for property management services in the foreseeable future. There is great demand for property managers in housing estates and in retail and commercial buildings in Hong Kong, the Chinese mainland and the region. The surveys have shown that many employers strongly prefer degree or professional qualifications for their employees at the managerial/professional level.

สำหรับนักเรียนนานาชาติ

GCE A-level / International A-level: GCE Advanced Level or International Advanced Level with passes in 3 AL, OR 2 AL and 2 AS, subjects. (This is only the minimum eligibility criteria. Applicants who gain admission, typically, attain at least BBB in 3 AL subjects.)

International Baccalaureate (IB): A minimum score of 24 with at least grade 4 in 2 Higher Level subjects (This is only the minimum eligibility criteria. Applicants who gain admission, typically, attain a score of 30 or above, including bonus points.)

Non-local applicants are required to meet the following English language requirement:

  • A Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of 80 for the Internet-based test or 550 for the paper-based test; OR
  • An overall Band Score of 6 in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).

For applicants who have reached an equivalent English standard as below, the above English language requirement can be waived.

  • Grade C or above in GCEOL English; OR
  • Grade C / 4 or above in GCSE / IGCSE English; OR
  • Grade 4 in English at International Baccalaureate (IB).
