Competency Assessment Programme (CAP) Level 7 Western Institute of Technology at Taranaki

Degree or higher tertiary qualification; or Level 6 or 7 Diploma and relevant work and/or life experience; or Equivalent knowledge, life skills, work experience or study. Students must also meet the English language proficiency requirements as below: IELTS 6.0 (academic) overall with no less than 5.5 in any band or any one of the below scores. TOEFL Paper-based test (pBT) - Score of 550 (with an essay score of 5 TWE), TOEFL Internet-based test (iBT) - Score of 60 (with a writing score of 20), PToE(Academic) score of 50. Cambridge English Examinations: FCE, or FCE for schools, or CAE, or CPE with a score of 169. No less than 162 in each skill OET at Grade C in all sub-tests. NZCEL3 Expiring Current - Level 4 (Academic), City and Guilds IESOL - B2 Communicator with a score of 66, Language Cert - C1 Expert IESOL (LRWS) with PASS.

Applicants must be a New Zealand Registered Nurse or an internationally qualified nurse with the appropriate documentation and have at least one year of employment as a Registered Nurse.

Internationally qualified nurses must:

• hold an approved registration in a country other than New Zealand;
• have a letter from the Nursing Council approving their qualification and documenting the English, theoretical and practical requirements that they must meet in order to gain registration in New Zealand;
• have a current visa or other evidence of right to study in New Zealand with the appropriate letter to allow entry to the clinical workplace and
• If from a non-English speaking background meet the English requirements below
• In order to participate in the clinical components of the programme, you must meet various Health Authority requirements. Currently, MRSA clearance is required by clinical practice areas.

English Language requirements

• IELTS Academic Requirements – 7.0 Overall (Speaking 7.0; Reading 7.0; Writing 7.0; Listening 7.0). IELTS scores are valid for two years from the date of the test

Consent to Disclosure of Information

Successful applicants will be required to:

• Complete a New Zealand Police Consent to Disclosure of Information form depending on their placement. The form will be sent to the Police Licensing and Vetting Service, and returned in confidence to the Head of School. Information on the NZ Police Vetting Service is available from the New Zealand Police website.
• Provide two referee reports (one must be from your most recent employer who is required to attest to your ability to communicate and comprehend safely in English).
