This programme, which is Royal Society of Chemistry accredited enhances your skills in analytical, environmental and bioanalytical areas. You gain modern analytical methods which you can apply to a range of industries, including environmental organisations, research institutes, the oil and gas industry and others. The university uses NMR, elemental and molecular mass spectrometry to identify small biomolecules at trace level. Trace elements can be fundamental to determining environmental contamination or food security challenges.

There is a need for many businesses and industries to employ specialists and graduates in order to innovate, provide public and environmental protection and more.

You study in the Department of Chemistry. This Department sits within the School of Natural and Computing Sciences. 80% of research in The Department of Chemistry is ‘world leading or internationally excellent.’ Chemistry is a fundamental subject of science which overlaps with biology, medicine, physics, engineering, geology and earth science. Research at Aberdeen is exciting and dynamic. You can get involved in areas such as; medicinal chemistry, bio discovery, trace element specification, biomaterials, catalysts and photo catalysts, functional materials, construction materials and remediation. Research is cross disciplinary, and facilities include the Trace Element Specification Laboratory and Biodiscovery Centre.
