Associate of Arts in Floral Design and Marketing The Ohio State University

The Floral Design and Marketing program prepares students for careers in this creative, competitive industry by providing coursework in both design and business. See the link at the right for the course sequence / curriculum.

The on-campus retail floral shop, used as a lab site, provides students with hands-on experience in all aspects of design, sales, and merchandising, including the art of display.

Practicum is a supervised, practical, on-campus work experience, which provides students with the opportunity to apply skills learned in both the classroom and laboratory. Practicum activities may take place in the flower shop, floral design lab, campus gardens, and/or greenhouses.

Students can also participate in Artists de Fleur, the student floral club, and some may qualify for membership in the Anderson Student Chapter of the American Institute of Floral Design.

Internship/Practicum

Students in the Floral Design and Marketing program complete an industry internship consisting of seven weeks of full-time employment in retail flower shops, wholesale florists, supermarket, and/or event planning businesses.

Career Prospects

Graduates find careers as designers, salespersons, assistant managers, managers, or owners.

The artistic principles learned in this program also prepare graduates to assume positions as:
