The Adolescent to Young Adult (AYA) program includes 7 majors: Integrated Language Arts, Integrated Mathematics, Integrated Social Studies, Integrated Science, Earth/Space Science, Life Science and Physical Science. Regardless of the college of the university from which you will graduate, if you wish to be licensed through Ohio University to teach integrated language arts, you must complete the following program and earn passing scores on the Ohio Assessments for Educators (OAE) exams and a Teacher Performance Assessment (TPA). This major prepares you for an Ohio four-year Resident Educator teaching license that qualifies you to teach all science courses in grades 7-12.

Complete the following courses with an overall GPA of 2.75 or higher:

If you 1) have or soon will receive a high school diploma from a chartered or accredited secondary school or a General Education Development (GED) diploma, and 2) have not been enrolled for 9 or more semester hours (or 12 or more quarter hours) of coursework at a college or university since completing secondary school, you are considered a freshman applicant. If you have earned credit for college courses as a high school student through one of the postsecondary enrollment options or other concurrent enrollment programs (such as College Credit Plus), you are still considered a freshman applicant with transfer credit.

If you are considering applying for admission to Ohio University, your high school background should include these college–prep courses: Four units of English, with an emphasis on composition; Four units of mathematics (including algebra II or higher; precalculus is encouraged for prospective engineering or business majors); Three units of social sciences (including .5 unit of American history and .5 unit of American government); Three units of natural sciences (including 1 unit of physical sciences, 1 unit of life sciences, and 1 unit of advanced study; physics and chemistry are encouraged if you plan to pursue an engineering major); Two units of foreign language; One unit of visual or performing arts (art, band, chorus, music, orchestra, theater, etc.); Four units of other electives.

Ohio University requires a TOEFL score of 525 (paper), 71 (Internet), or IELTS 6.0 to be admitted to full–time academic classes.
