The BST in Engineering Technology provides students with the technical background required to enter technical careers in various industries. Engineering Technologists are involved in different professional activities such as planning production processes, developing tooling, establishing quality assurance procedures, cost analysis, developing safety programs, designing facilities, and implementing lean principles. Students can specialize in:

  • Civil Engineering Technology - Minimum required: 120 semester credit hours
  • Electrical Engineering Technology - Minimum required: 122 semester credit hours
  • Environmental Engineering Technology - Minimum required: 120 semester credit hours
  • Manufacturing Engineering Technology - Minimum required: 123 semester credit hours
  • Mechanical Engineering Technology - Minimum required: 120 semester credit hours

Mission, Program Educational Objectives, and Student Outcomes

Mission:

The mission of the Engineering Technology program is to (1) sustain a quality, student-centered, industry oriented engineering technology curriculum and (2) prepare students with technical knowledge, real-world problem solving skills, leadership skills, and hand-on abilities to perform effectively in the global marketplace.

Program Educational Objectives:

Within 3-5 years after graduation, graduates of the Engineering Technology program are expected to be able to attain the following educational objectives:

Apply the principles of math, science, engineering, and technology to the solution of real-world technical problems.

Perform as technical leaders in the global marketplace.

Effectively use their communication skills in oral, written, visual and graphic modes within interpersonal and team environments.

Maintain high standards of professional and ethical responsibility.

Practice life-long learning.

Student Outcomes:

Each graduate is expected to have:

An ability to select and apply the knowledge, techniques, skills, and modern tools of the discipline to broadly-defined engineering technology activities.

An ability to select and apply a knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering, and technology to engineering technology problems that require the application of principles and applied procedures or methodologies.

An ability to conduct standard tests and measurements; to conduct, analyze, and interpret experiments; and to apply experimental results to improve processes.

An ability to design systems, components, or processes for broadly-defined engineering technology problems appropriate to program educational objectives.

An ability to function effectively as a member or leader on a technical team.

An ability to identify, analyze, and solve broadly-defined engineering technology problems.

An ability to apply written, oral, and graphical communication in both technical and non-technical environments; and an ability to identify and use appropriate technical literature.

An understanding of the need for and an ability to engage in self-directed continuing professional development.

An understanding of and a commitment to address professional and ethical responsibilities including a respect for diversity.

A knowledge of the impact of engineering technology solutions in a societal and global context.

A commitment to quality, timeliness, and continuous improvement.

Students applying without this curriculum will go through our review process. 4 credits of English - Including: English I, II, III and IV; 4 credits of Math- Including: algebra I and II, geometry and advanced math courses such as pre-calculus, calculus and statistics. 4 credits of Science - Including: biology; chemistry; and two advanced sciences such as physics, environmental science, anatomy and physiology, or integrated physics and chemistry (IPC) is acceptable between biology and chemistry; 4 credits of Social Studies - Including: world or human geography, world history, U.S. history since 1877, U.S. government and economics; 2 credits of Foreign Language; 1 credit of Fine Arts; 1 credit of Physical Education. English Language Requirements: TOEFL iBT: 78; Each Section: 19; Except Writing: 18; TOEFL PBT: 550. IELTS Overall: 6.5; Each Section: 6.0; GCE/GCSE/IGCSE Grade of C; WASSCE Grade of B3.

An International Baccalaureate grade of 4 or higher in English A1 or A2 at the Higher Level or Standard Level or English B at the Higher Level is required for regular admission (predicted or actual).
