Within the area of conducting, students may select an instrumental (wind or orchestral) emphasis. This degree is designed to prepare individuals for professional advancement or for entry into further study at the doctoral level.
Awards for full-time graduate assistantships are available on a competitive basis. Recipients of these positions will take active leadership roles in the department's ensembles, teaching and accompanying private lessons and/or serving as an assistant to the ensemble director.
About Master's Degree
In addition to work done in the classroom and studio, students in the Instrumental Conducting Graduate Program at Pittsburg State University will gain extensive hands-on experience with PSU ensembles as part of their training. The final component of the program is the presentation of a public performance. Preparation for this component includes the research and selection of all repertoires, as well as planning and running rehearsals.
The Instrumental Conducting Graduate Program at PSU has the flexibility to accommodate the schedule of working music educators, and will prepare students for career advancement or placement in an advanced degree program.
