The East Asia Institute of Management (EAIM) is one of the best private higher education institutions in Singapore. In 1984, EAIM was Informatics Software, a vocational training provider in the field of information technology. In 2001, a company restructure turned Informatics into the East Asia School of Business, and more courses were made available. Now, as EAIM, there are more learning programmes available than ever, and students enjoy excellent graduate outcomes.

EAIM courses are recognised in over 30 countries worldwide, and students can expect their qualifications from the university to mean a lot to employers. In fact, the university aims to make its students as employable as possible. It does this through quality teaching, a clear mission and strong learning values. All tutors and lecturers across all courses of study give their students the skills they need to stand out in their fields and do well in the professional world.

When international students choose EAIM, they’re welcomed by great student support services, quality modern facilities and amazing scholarships. Generally, these will cover between 70 to 100 per cent of tuition fees, meaning EAIM courses are accessible to talented people of any financial background.

The EAIM academic staff members are talented, hard-working professionals who give their students high teaching standards. They offer theory and academic knowledge as well as practical skills and useful research materials across on-campus lecture theatres, teaching rooms and specialised laboratories for scientific research or computer-based learning.

EAIM’s facilities are respected as some of the best in Singapore, and this reputation doesn’t end with the teaching rooms. The accommodation options for overseas applicants are also great, and life in Singapore can come complete with some exciting luxury amenities like sky pools, gyms, and gardens/other outdoor social areas.

For three consecutive years, EAIM received Singapore’s SME Excellence Recognition Award. This is an institution that’s grown a lot since it made that change in 2001, and it continues to grow today. Anyone who wants to get a great education and stand out to employers in Southeast Asia and across the world (all while learning in beautiful Singapore and using some of the best facilities available) should strongly consider EAIM.

Teaching Quality

Since EAIM was upgraded in 2001, it has offered a much wider range of courses and programmes, and it continues to add to that list over two decades later. There are several certificates, diplomas and preparatory programmes offered alongside bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes, so students of any background can benefit from the high-quality teaching on offer. This is just one of the many ways that the institution is inclusive and welcoming to everyone.

The teaching quality at EAIM is hard to beat, well-researched and based on many principles. Some of the most important principles include making sure that quality and reliability can be guaranteed, alongside making sure that students always have the access they need to the highest quality research materials and tools.

EAIM students learn creative, academic, and practical skills from the experienced faculty that help them stand out to employers and get the jobs they dream of after graduation. EAIM also works hard to make sure every student leaves the institution with core values like community and teamwork.

EAIM regularly ranks in the top 30 universities in Singapore and has developed some important professional partnerships with overseas universities, including Leicester De Montfort and Queen Margaret University Edinburgh. It offers some amazing learning environments to hard-working students, including specialist labs and comfortable study spaces.

The master’s degree in business administration is a popular choice for students from all over the globe, as is the bachelor’s degree in international hospitality and tourism management. The master’s degree in marketing is always getting very high teaching scores (which is saying something considering every course at EAIM is monitored to make sure quality teaching is delivered).

Entry Requirements

The entry requirements at EAIM change from course to course. In some cases, there may be a minimum age that applicants have to be. Similarly, they may need qualifications from one of the institution’s partner universities. Students should check the individual course pages that will be relevant to them before applying.

For example, if an international applicant wants to study for a master’s degree in science (marketing), they’ll need recognised university qualifications and at least two years of full-time work experience in a relevant subject area. They can also gain entry if they have a diploma and meet other university entry requirements. They must be 22 years old or over.

Alternatively, if an international applicant wants to study for an advanced diploma in accounting, they’ll need to have a relevant EAIM diploma/the equivalent from another recognised higher education provider.

For all the courses at all levels at EAIM, university requirements ask international students to show certain levels of English language ability. There are some programmes that are designed to help students improve their language skills. For example, any international student applying for the certificate qualification in Business English with an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of less than 4/the equivalent for their testing method can get onto the course and get support.

English Score Required

All international applicants will have to prove their English language skills to be considered for student admission at EAIM. The university welcomes students from all over the world, and English is the most accessible language for them, so it’s the language of teaching and assessment. If applicants can’t prove their English proficiency in another way, they’ll usually need to take an English test like the IELTS (mentioned above) and get a certain minimum score.

Like with the academic entry requirements, each course page will explain the minimum English scores applicants need. For example, the business administration master’s asks students for a minimum overall IELTS band score of 6.5, while the bachelor’s top-up in business and management asks for a minimum overall IELTS band score of 6 (or a minimum EAIM ETEDP score of Level Three).

At the diploma level, the usual IELTS overall band score requirement is 5. Mature students can also apply if they have relevant experience in similar fields. The language requirements for the preparatory courses depend on how long the student will be attending them. More information can be found on specific course pages.

Admission

The admission process at EAIM is made as easy as possible for international students. The university offers full-time and part-time courses. Most courses are delivered through in-person lessons on the campus in Singapore, but since the outbreak of COVID-19, some classes have been offered online in an interactive digital set-up. Either way, the student admission process is the same. Firstly, students need to choose which course they would like to study. After that, there are six simple steps:

  1. An applicant will complete their application form.
  2. An applicant will submit copies of several documents, including academic transcripts and certificates (in English) and proof of identity (either a valid international passport or work pass).
  3. An applicant will pay for their application and ICA processing fees (SGD 577.80).
  4. An applicant will pay for their course fees after the university has accepted a student pass.
  5. An applicant will sign and return their acceptance form and student contract.
  6. An applicant will receive a Letter of Offer once the payment has been received and the application approved.

The admission process at EAIM requires all international students to submit supporting documentation for university admission to any course or programme. Some of that is mentioned above, but the exact documentation needed changes from country to country, and there are specific requirements listed for international students from China, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia. Applicants from any other country must contact the student admission team at the university for guidance.

During admission, before officially applying and making a commitment, people should make sure they understand the tuition fees they’ll be expected to pay (and make sure that they’ll be able to pay them). Fees change depending on a person’s chosen programme and level of study. For example, an international student studying for a master’s in science (marketing) must pay SGD 40,300 in total, while an international student studying for an advanced diploma in banking and finance must pay SGD 10,800.

Scholarships & Funding

The scholarships offered by EAIM to international students are usually aimed at people from specific countries. Academic Excellence Scholarships, for example, are mostly offered to international students from other Southeast Asian countries, as EAIM is very focused on improving the lives and futures of students from the region.

There are different acceptance criteria for each of the university scholarships, and criteria can change depending on an applicant’s home country, too. For example, Chinese students can apply for an Academic Excellence Scholarship if they’re studying a three-year bachelor’s degree in one of the following subjects:

  • Accountancy
  • Business information systems
  • Business and management studies
  • International hospitality and tourism management
  • Psychology

They will also need strong enough academic results and an IELTS score of 6 at a minimum, and they’ll have to pass an interview test. If they can do all of the above, Chinese recipients of the Academic Excellence Scholarship can get up to 100 per cent of their fees and study costs covered. 70 per cent of this funding is paid in one sum, and the remaining 30 per cent is paid in three annual instalments. The payments will keep coming if a student stays enrolled and in good academic standing.

Students outside of Southeast Asia searching for support from EAIM should reach out for financial aid if they’ve experienced hardship. This is a caring, student-focused university that will do everything it can to support students of all backgrounds.

University Structure

EAIM is overseen by a management council, and things are kept running smoothly by this council and the academic board. There’s also a senior management team. Each member of the team has a certain important role connected to the university’s operations, like the executive director of finance and administration or the director of academic affairs. Every member of the senior management team puts students first, so EAIM is run and organised for the benefit of students.

EAIM also has international networks and partnerships with four UK universities: De Montfort University, Aston University, Queen Margaret University and the Edinburgh Business School at Heriot-Watt University. It’s in partnership with these universities that EAIM offers many of its courses, which are organised into six core subject areas:

  • Business management
  • Accounting, banking and finance
  • Allied health sciences
  • Hospitality and tourism management
  • Business information systems
  • Logistics management

Facilities

EAIM has one campus located close to Balestier Road in Singapore. This campus has space for up to 4,000 enrolled students and is home to all of the university’s important facilities and services. It’s where students will find the exam hall, the canteen, the Language Laboratory and the Health and Tourism Training Centre.

EAIM wants to make sure that its students have the best access to academic and extracurricular facilities. It has plenty of student life centres for socialising and relaxing, as well as laboratories and seminar rooms for studying and learning.

All EAIM lecture theatres and classrooms are fully air-conditioned and have connected panels with audio/visual equipment. They come in a range of sizes but usually have space for between 21 and 84 students. The Computer Laboratory has 48 seats, and the Physics Laboratory has 20.

The library, a student activity centre for studying individually or as a group member, gives students access to over 3,000 books, journals, and reference points. It has materials that can help students with research in any of the university’s subject areas, as well as 80 seats and lots of computers available for student use.

The Multipurpose Hall on campus can fit over 300 people and is a great option for hosting larger events. There are also badminton courts located just outside and table tennis courts inside, so it doubles as a great student recreation centre. The campus also has a full gym equipped with modern machinery and exercise equipment.

In terms of food and drink options, students can find a lot of choices in the campus canteen. Plus, since EAIM is in the busy city of Singapore, the university isn’t far away from the city’s famous restaurants and cafés (or its long list of amazing nightlife and evening entertainment options). All of Singapore is a student activity centre for anyone learning at EAIM and living in the city.

Accommodation

There are a few different accommodation types for international students at EAIM. Though it doesn’t offer any of its own university accommodation options on campus, the institution does have partnerships with local agents and hostels, so finding the right student house, apartment or room doesn’t have to be confusing or stressful.

The most popular student accommodation choice for international students is the Balestier Students’ Hostel x Asiadorm. It’s within 15 minutes of EAIM’s campus, whether students are walking or commuting by bus or car. The rooms are furnished, Wi-Fi and utilities are included in the cost of rent, and shared areas include the kitchen, the entertainment area, the library, the private study area, and the laundry facilities. The room types available, each at different costs, are:

  • A shared room for six people at SGD 600 monthly
  • A mini single room at SGD 900 monthly
  • A triple shared room at SGD 950 monthly
  • A standard single room at SGD 1,400 monthly

Another great accommodation option is the Nova 88 Residence. This is a home for students from many of the universities in Singapore, so it’s a great place for mixing with new people and meeting new student friends. Plus, residents can use the free sky pool, high-rise gym, and barbecue area.

Students can stay at Nova 88 for six or 12 months. How much they pay depends on the length of their stay and the accommodation type they select. As an example, if they want a private single room for 12 months, their rent will cost SGD 1,100 monthly.

Student Support

EAIM student services are easy to access and cover all possible areas of student need. EAIM is a university that’s proud to have a full student support programme, as it knows that happy students are successful students.

There’s a full Student Counselling Service at EAIM, and this is one of the main student support outlets. Through this service, students can connect with a supportive student guide and an expert in the field, talking about personal, emotional, physical, or academic issues. With counselling available, students feel much less alone. They always feel heard and supported on campus, and they do better as a result.

There are also some specific student support services for international students, from airport pick-up options to accommodation sourcing support to special orientation events to help people from overseas get settled in Singapore as soon as possible. Students (domestic or international) can contact the Student Services Centre for accommodation advice/administrative guidance every day of the week except Sunday, so help is never far away.

Graduate Outcomes

EAIM makes sure that its students are career-ready across all courses and programmes. Its recent student survey of alumni who graduated in 2019 revealed that 88.6 per cent of them were in employment within six months of leaving EAIM. Job prospects are strong, and they’re only getting stronger.

Lots of the skills that students learn at EAIM are valuable in a range of industries and situations. All the learning programmes are designed to help a student’s employment in whatever career they’re aiming for. Since the institution puts a real focus on management, business, and vision, it’s no surprise that its students are so appealing to employers in Singapore and across the rest of the world.

Outside the classroom, EAIM also offers a list of helpful career services that make it even easier for students to stand out in competitive job markets. These services include employability workshops, online portals containing useful resources for exploring career options and one-to-one career counselling sessions with experienced career guides.

Combine these employment services with caring academic staff members who are always willing to give their advice and a holistic approach to education. The result is a uniquely well-qualified graduate. To enjoy student life in Singapore while preparing for a successful career, there are few options as ideal as EAIM.
