Montana State University ก่อตั้งขึ้นเมื่อปี 1893 และตั้งอยู่ที่ Bozeman รัฐมอนแทนา (Montana) เป็นมหาวิทยาลัยวิจัยของรัฐซึ่งมีปริญญาตรี ปริญญาโท ประกาศนียบัตรวิชาชีพ (certificate) และปริญญาเอกเช่นเดียวกันกับปริญญาเฉพาะทางด้านการศึกษา มีนักศึกษาเกือบ 13,000 คนเข้าลงทะเบียนเรียนกับทางมหาวิทยาลัย มหาวิทยาลัยประกอบด้วยวิทยาลัยต่างๆ คือ College of Agriculture, College of Education, Health & Human Development, College of Technology in Bozeman, College of Graduate Studies, College of Letters and Science, College of Nursing, College of Arts and Architechture, University College, College of Business และ College of Engineering
