Language is fundamental to the human experience. Through the study of how language works, you’ll engage with core philosophical, socio-cultural and psychological questions about what it means to be human. You’ll also gain the analytical tools of empirical science including the ability to deconstruct complex problems into sizeable components that can be effectively addressed and to evaluate theories on the basis of empirical facts. The major in Linguistics will provide you with a foundation for many careers including primary and secondary teaching, research, analytics, business, law, communication and social services in culturally diverse communities. It will also prepare you for postgraduate studies.
