Linguistics courses offer insights into the relationship between the brain, mind and language. By studying linguistics, you’ll gain the skills and knowledge to understand foreign languages and the difficulties foreign students encounter in English and French. Linguistic courses complement programs in Education, English, Languages, Psychology, Philosophy, Social Science, and Computer Science. Linguistics is a requirement for Speech Therapy, TESL, and other programs related to language processing and language engineering.This program provides students with a solid knowledge of basic concepts that form the foundation of linguistic theories including:The modules of grammar (phonology, syntax, semantics).The relationship between cognition and language (psycholinguistics).The relationship between brain and grammar (generative grammar.Mental processes involved in the acquisition of the first and second languages.
