The Language, Culture and History: Hispanic Studies MA will enable you to learn about Hispanic literature, film and culture from internationally renowned experts. Taught at UCL, you’ll benefit from access to leading resources while developing the knowledge needed to work in academia, education, culture, media, tourism and more. The course offers a broad range of optional modules in Hispanic cultures from the early modern period to the present day, alongside relevant training in research skills and methodologies. Students develop a knowledge and understanding of the key aspects and complex concepts used to understand Hispanic literature, film and culture. Options for the study of Lusophone (Portuguese, Brazilian and African) literatures and societies in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries are also available. The Language, Culture and History: Hispanic Studies MA, comprises of one compulsory module. This core module provides a combination of methodology and research topics (historiography, literary studies, cultural studies), and is designed to work as a postgraduate-level foundation. Providing you with the specific skills and knowledge to research, write academic essays and the dissertation. You will also take optional modules and a dissertation. If you choose the 60-credit dissertation, you take 90 credits of optional modules. If you choose the 90-credit research dissertation, you take fewer optional modules (60 credits), in favour of writing an extended dissertation to focus on your own interests. The course will be of interest both to those who wish to enhance their knowledge of the Hispanic and Lusophone worlds for professional purposes - in the fields of education, culture, media and tourism, for example - as well as students who are considering pursuing their studies to doctoral level.
