OverviewThe Public Health program is an associate degree program designed for students who, after obtaining the associate degree, plan to transition to the baccalaureate program in Public Health in UC's College of Medicine (CoM). The Public Health program at the University of Cincinnati is designed to increase students' awareness of emerging issues in public health, the social and behavioural aspects of preventing disease, environmental health concepts, the changing U.S. health care system, and the monitoring of diseases in the community.Public health professionals work to improve the health of individuals or communities, depending on their work setting and job responsibilities. For example, public health professionals may work in health departments or one-on-one with individuals to help them modify and improve their diet, increase their physical activity, reduce their stress levels, stop smoking, etc.CareerThis program will prepare students for entry level public health jobs, however, students are highly encouraged to complete the baccalaureate degree in public health in pursuit of wider employment opportunities. Depending on preparation and interest, graduates of the baccalaureate program in public health may find employment in community health agencies, departments of public health, business and industry, health care settings, sports medicine centers or schools. Public health professionals may be involved in such diverse areas as stress management, weight control, physical fitness, improved nutrition, smoking cessation, environmental health, epidemiology, family life and more.
