At the academic heart of ASU, this program is part of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the university’s largest and most diverse college. Its world-renowned faculty include 15 National Academy of Sciences members, 3 Pulitzer Prize winners and 2 Noble Prize winners. Students in the Bachelor of Arts program in German study the language, literature and culture of German-speaking people and gain competence in reading, writing, listening and speaking. German classes provide opportunities for exploring how people in German-speaking Europe: engage with politics, economics, social justice and humanitarianism, have become global leaders in the fields of business, engineering and the natural sciences, think deeply about philosophy, the influence of history and the environment, understand the world through literature, film, the performing arts and other cultural practices. Students are encouraged to participate in the School of International Letters and Cultures faculty-directed summer abroad program in Regensburg or in a semester or academic-year exchange program available at several German universities.
