Bachelor of Advanced Medical Science - Human Nutrition

Our Advanced Medical Science degree allows all the flexibility of the Medical Science degree and is designed for high-achieving students who want to extend themselves. This is a challenging program that includes advanced work, extension activities and additional research training. You will be linked to experienced researchers and be mentored throughout the Advanced Medical Science program. This program is an add-on to other programs. For example, the total full-time duration is four years for students completing a three-year Western Sydney Bachelor degree and the Bachelor of Applied Data Science. Five years for students completing a four-year Western Sydney Bachelor degree and the Bachelor of Applied Data Science. You will have an opportunity to apply skills and knowledge gained from this degree in a workplace setting, through an internship or an engaging work-integrated learning experience. What you can expect to study The program structure is outlined in our handbook. Here you can view all of the subjects you will be studying. Students must maintain a grade point average of 5 or above to remain in the program. Those who do not maintain this average will be transferred to the Bachelor of Medical Science. You can choose from the following majors: Anatomy and Physiology This degree will provide you with the opportunity to learn about the basic sciences underpinning human health, wellbeing and its application to human disease. The anatomy and physiology major focuses on the anatomy and physiology of the human body in relation to health and disease. The degree also allows for enrolment in a variety of free electives, so students can design their own learning journey. Biomedical Science Biomedical science is a broad field that aims to understand the biology that underpins human and animal health and disease. In this major you will study the structure and function of biological organisms from the molecular to the systemic. The coursework in this major will give you an integrated foundation in physiology and anatomy, along with biochemistry, cell biology and genetics. This major will equip you with core discipline knowledge from which you can embark on unlimited career choices in or outside of a laboratory - from hospital pathology to biomedical engineering, medical technology and beyond. Human Nutrition A Human Nutrition Major in Medical Science uses biology, chemistry and physiology to develop concepts in food and nutrient form and function in relation to human metabolism and physiology. This major takes students through the ingestion, digestion, absorption, storage and utilization of proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals and trace element. Students learn how these nutrients can be managed with respect to appetite, exercise, health and disease as well as develop a wide range of laboratory and research skills. Students will also develop critical analytical skills to assess and implement recommendations for testing, monitoring and community education.
