Medicinal chemistry embodies the application of molecular sciences to the discovery, design and synthesis of new medicines. It combines a solid foundation of chemistry with contemporary biology, biochemistry and pharmacology.In the Medicinal Chemistry major, you’ll explore the interaction of drugs or drug leads with biological targets at a molecular level, methods of drug discovery, rational drug design and development, and the mechanisms of action of specific classes of drugs, including antibacterial, anticancer and neuroactive drugs.
