This qualification reflects the role of experienced building professionals who apply their knowledge of structural principles, risk and financial management, estimating, contract administration, contractor selection, quality control, and site management to residential and commercial building projects. Residential construction is limited to National Construction Code (NCC) Class 1 and 10 buildings, up to a maximum of three storeys. Commercial construction is limited to NCC Class 2 to 9 buildings, Type B and Type C constructions. Occupational titles may include Builder, General Foreperson, and Building Inspector. The construction industry strongly supports that training and assessment must take place in a real or closely simulated workplace environment to ensure the authenticity and relevance of skills developed.
