As sociology major, you will gain the knowledge and skills to understand people and contemporary culture.
Our exceptional faculty has specialized in culture, race and ethnicity, social inequality, family, religion, and social change.
Our sociology students also have the option of completing the Human Services certificate program. This program has an applied focus in sociology, with opportunities to choose from a wide variety of practicum in helping professions. Practicum includes areas in social service agencies that are governmental, non-governmental, profit or non-profit organizations, or faith-based organizations.
Sociology students may complete a semester at the Laurentian Leadership Centre in Ottawa, where they complete classes toward their degree while enjoying a rewarding internship.

Graduates of our Sociology program often step into professions involving research, the justice system, government, business, or community and social services. Employers look for the skills that our graduates excel in such as research, critical thinking, and analytical skills.

Students must have standing in five subjects of which at least two must be taken at the Advanced level.
The following equivalents will be considered:
School Certificate: same as GCE with at least two passes at the principal level of the Higher School Certificate.
Certificate of matriculation from recognized universities.
International Baccalaureate with at least two subjects at the higher level.

Applicants must demonstrate English Language Proficiency in both oral and written academic English:
TOEFL (Test of English Foreign Language Internet-Based Test): Overall Score: 88 with a minimum score of 21 in each of the four areas and a TWE of at least 5.
IELTS (International English Language Testing System (Academic)): Overall score: 6.5 with 6.0 on Writing Band
CAEL (Canadian Academic English Language Assessment): Overall score: 70
