The Bachelor of Arts in Justice and Legal Studies provides students with a clear understanding of law and judicial processes in Canada and a global context and allows students to critically evaluate, using various and interdisciplinary conceptions of justice, the relationship between legal institutions, society, politics, and governance. The core of the Justice and Legal Studies Major draws on work in law and politics, socio-legal studies, political science and other disciplinary traditions to provide students with a practical understanding of the operation of law and legal institutions in both a local and global context. It also encourages students to evaluate how law and legal institutions impact, shape, and are shaped by actors and power dynamics in government and society.Join one of the premier law and politics departments in Canada to find out how the law and legal processes can either enhance or frustrate the pursuit of justice and the goal of improving life. The secondary school graduation certificate which would admit a student to an internationally recognized university in their home country is normally acceptable for admission to the University of Guelph.Students presenting predicted, interim or midterm grade 12/senior level results may be considered for a conditional offer of admission if all prerequisite courses are completed or in progress and meeting the minimum grade requirements. International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma with 6 subjects: 3 Higher Level and 3 Standard Level with a minimum score of 28. Bonus marks from TOK and EE will be taken into consideration. Prerequisites for the major must be taken at the IB DP2 level.Note: For programs with Advanced Math, students must present one of: SL/HL Analysis & Approaches, or HL Applications & Interpretations. Math Studies/Standard Level Applications and Interpretations are not an acceptable prerequisite for programs that require Advanced Math or Calculus.
