York University’s MFA in Theatre is an intensive, two-year (five-semester) conservatory program. It is designed for serious, advanced theatre artists who want to further hone their skills so as to enter - or re-enter - the profession, and who seek the knowledge and skills needed to teach at the post-secondary level. The program offers small class sizes led by faculty who are experts in the field. Please note, the international student acceptance rate is extremely low, and we may not accept international MA applications every academic year.

To be eligible for admission to a masters program, applicants must hold, at a minimum, an Honours undergraduate degree or equivalent (typically a four-year full-time program) from a recognized post-secondary institution with at least a B (second class) standing in the final two years of full-time equivalent study.Candidates for admission for the performance, directing and playwriting fields are expected to satisfy one of the following requirements:1) an honours four-year BA or BFA degree with a minimum “B” average;OR,2) an Ordinary three-year degree with a minimum “B” average and a minimum of three years additional theatre or related experience.Exceptions may be made for mature students with additional professional theatre credits.
