What is Animal Science? In JWU Providence’s Animal Science bachelor of science program, you will study how animal biology, nutrition, behavior, genetics, reproduction, health and welfare shape the care and management of domestic and captive species. The program combines science coursework with laboratory, field and experiential learning across multiple animal-focused settings. Choose a general course of study or focus your education through the Pre-Veterinary Studies or Equine specialization. Through hands-on coursework, internships and other approved applied experiences, you can build practical skills while preparing for animal science careers or advanced study in veterinary and related fields. Hailey Sangillo ’27 A Coastal Ecology class took Hailey Sangillo out on Narragansett Bay to test water quality with Save The Bay - and connected her to the people who later hired her as an intern. She spent the summer at Save The Bay’s aquarium in Newport, teaching visitors about native Rhode Island species and building care pages for every animal in the collection.
