At the academic heart of ASU, this program is part of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the university’s largest and most diverse college. Its world-renowned faculty include 15 National Academy of Sciences members, 3 Pulitzer Prize winners and 2 Noble Prize winners. The Bachelor of Arts program in Asian languages with a concentration in Chinese emphasizes proficiency in reading, writing and speaking modern Mandarin, as well as in reading classical Chinese. Students gain an in-depth understanding of the fundamentals of the rich Chinese cultural tradition, centered on primary Chinese texts from the literary, intellectual and religious cultures of Chinese-speaking societies. Students interested in learning Chinese are encouraged to inquire about the Chinese Flagship Language program. All students with higher levels of linguistic competency may enroll in targeted courses offered as part of the Chinese flagship track.
