The Secondary Education program at Lewis University prepares candidates to effectively teach high school students (grades 9-12) in the Illinois public and private schools. Students in the program declare two majors while preparing to become a high school teacher – one major in Secondary Education (grades 9-12), and one major in the academic subject they plan to teach. Content areas include:BiologyChemistryMathematicsPhysicsEnglish/Language ArtsPsychologyHistoryPrior to the final semester of clinical practice, Secondary Education majors also complete a minimum of 100 hours of field work, earning experience in a wide variety of teaching environments in both public and private school districts. Upon graduation, students will have experience with diverse learners and will be prepared for today’s changing classrooms.The Secondary Education program is fully approved by the State Educator Preparation and Licensure Board and the Illinois State Board of Education.
