Theatre has always been humanity’s mirror. It reflects our complexities, challenges and aspirations. Scholars with a doctorate in theatre become the interpreters, preservers and innovators of this cultural legacy.
The Ph.D. in theatre at Bowling Green State University helps theatre artists to grow as scholars, educators and cultural leaders through a dynamic program rooted in research, critical thought and creative exploration.
BGSU stands out among theatre doctoral programs for its blend of academic rigor, artistic innovation and cultural inquiry. We cross disciplinary boundaries by emphasizing the vital connection between theatre and performance studies scholarship and artistic practice. That means graduate students don’t simply study theatre. They explore theatre at the intersection of research and practice.
