Journalists who report on culture and society need to understand social movements, cultural practices that influence human behavior, and the structures that make up our society, They also need the research skills to collect, analyze, and communicate relevant information. The combined Bachelor of Science (B.S.) and Master of Arts (M.A.) program in Journalism and Sociology will allow you to develop expertise in these areas and complete both degrees in just five years of full-time study. While still working toward your undergraduate Journalism degree, you enroll in four approved graduate courses in Sociology. These courses will still apply to your bachelor’s degree if for any reason you do not wish to continue at the master’s level after four years.In the B.S./M.A. program in Journalism and Sociology, you learn to collect, analyze, and report information about the cultural movements and structures that make up today’s global and diverse society. Your combined studies will allow you to conduct insightful interviews and understand the language and terminology used to describe social and cultural phenomena. You’ll also develop the research skills necessary to collect, analyze, and interpret large sets of data related to human behavior. The knowledge and skills you gain through the program will allow you to succeed in careers related to media and journalism, social media, non-profit organizations, marketing, and public relations, to name just a few.
