Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology

Our Master of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology is designed for students who wish to work in mental health services in a variety of mental health fields. Students graduating with an MA in Counseling Psychology find employment in a variety of settings including community and state mental health agencies, university wellness centers, substance abuse treatment centers, and private practice. Our graduates often pursue teaching and research careers at community colleges and universities. Graduates also obtain doctoral degrees in Clinical or Counseling Psychology. Our program prepares students to sit for the state Licensed Professional Counselor exam (i.e., LPC), and consequently our students complete 60 hours of course credit, as required by the Texas Board of Licensed Professional Counselor Examiners. Our students are also required to complete a practicum, where they get hands-on supervision with clients. Finally, all students complete either a thesis or a research project.
