UMSL Cyber Start Grant for Fall 2020 - Under this scheme, F1 international students who are unable to report to campus this fall due to COVID19 are able to pay a reduced rate of tuition. • This will only be for the Fall 2020 semester as the students should be on campus in Spring 2021 paying regular rates. • Any UMSL Global scholarship awarded for Fall 2020 would be deferred until Spring 2021. • Students must be enrolled in a degree program conducive to online learning.
The Master of Arts in English program, a 36 credit-hour degree with concentrations in either literature or composition, furthers the education and advances the professional skills of teachers in high schools and middle schools in the St. Louis area; it prepares students for PhD programs in English studies, American studies, and composition; it prepares students for employment in community colleges as teachers of composition; and it provides opportunities for members of the St. Louis community to broaden their understanding of literature. The program contributes in substantial and measurable ways to the development and enhancement of the region's humanities workforce.
Degree Requirements
In addition to the Graduate School requirements, students must complete at least 36 hours, 24 hours of which must be in 5000-level courses. Twelve hours may be taken in 4000-level courses approved by the department and Graduate School.

Successful applicants must have at least the equivalent of the B.A. degree before beginning the master’s program. At least 18 hours of English courses above the freshman level and at least 12 hours in literature are normally required.
Entrance examinations
The Graduate Record Examination General Test
International students are required to document English proficiency by providing scores from an internationally accepted standardized examination before a decision is made on admission.
Grade Point Average
Minimum of 3.25 on 4.0 scale in English courses.
Students whose overall GPA is 2.75 to 2.99 may be admitted under some circumstances.
Proof of English proficiency
Minimum requirements vary by department. It is recommended that students have a 79 TOEFL, 6.5 IELTS, or 53 PTE-A.
