The conducting degree program is highly focused with refined enrollment allowing students generous podium time with outstanding ensembles, creative collaboration in coaching and opportunities for off-campus collaboration. The degree offers three areas of specialty: choral, orchestral and winds, with individual attention from our conducting faculty being the highest priority. Students in the conducting program work to develop professional levels of performance and a comprehensive grasp of musical knowledge. Emphasis is placed on baton technique and gestural language, score reading, score study and effective rehearsal techniques. A comprehensive curriculum includes individual conducting lessons and ensemble performance, as well as courses in scholarly research, music theory, history and literature and pedagogy.
