The French founded the city of Detroit and continues to enjoy a French presence with some 145 French automotive subsidiaries in Michigan, including Faurecia, Hutchinson, Delmia and Dassault and Valeo. The skills acquired through our M.A. program are thus vital to working in a global city like Detroit. Wayne State's Master of Arts in Romance Languages with a concentration in French provides advanced training in language, literature and culture. Graduates gain skills in translation, textual analysis and intercultural competency. Our alums hold employment in the automotive industry, high school and college-level teaching as well as other private-sector employers. Many graduates also go on to receive their Ph.D. at Wayne State and universities such as the University of Texas-Austin, University of Virginia and Emory University. Applicants must demonstrate competency in French.
